Residents of Maina village in Nyahururu were on Monday, June 20, treated to a rare drama when three bodaboda operators were forcibly dragged into a river to bathe after what the residents said had been a long time since they had washed.
The three victims (names withheld), witnessed their dirty and tattered clothes being burnt to ashes prompting good-hearted passersby to solicit funds for buying clothes for the now spotlessly clean men after the broad daylight bathing in public..
Earlier, one of the young men had earlier pleaded with fellow clean bodabodaoperators not to subject him to the humiliation but his plea fell on deaf ears even after explaining that he always bathed everyday.
He termed the act by his friends as malicious and was out of false allegations by his business enemies.
Matatu and taxi drivers hailed their bodaboda counterparts for the “good work done” and swore to do the same to their mates who are ‘allergic’ to water.
“Even mechanics in this area have no exception since some smell like skunks (tucoiriin Kikuyu). It is shameful,” saidMuiruri, a lorry driver, adding that clients should refuse to board bodabodas manned by badly smelling service providers.
