‘Nyandarua MPs are a sorry lot and should not be recycled’

letter to the editor

I heard a recent discussion about Members of Parliament from Nyandarua (while celebrating the election of a Malewa ward Councillor as the chairman of the Nyandarua County Council in Kipiriri) advising residents to vote for visionary, and development conscious leaders in the coming General Election.    Interesting all the four MPs were present to whine about how Nyandarua has been neglected over the years.

To be specific they complained about poor state of roads, lack piped water, and good educational facilities for higher education...Now guys this is how we address the wannabes and pretenders to the throne:
Facts
Nyandarua Ranges (Aberdares if you like) is the second most important water tower after Mau, yet none has raised their voices while uninformed citizenry visit their anger on it. The waters from the ranges should be harness to serve the interest of the people of Nyandarua, but who has the blue print? Forget about feeder roads, there is no single network of road to and from Nyandarua:
The Flyover-Njabini road is pathetic, Dundori - Lanet road is yet to be tarmacked, You need not be told about the Gilgil - Ol Kalou and Nyeri - Nyahururu roads- they are simply a mess. Yet at one point we could be heard gloating that the Finance Minister and an Assistant Minister are from Nyandarua.
The least we talk about our schools and institutes of higher education the better... Remember when Nyandarua used to be the face of KCPE results? What do we have in terms of tertiary centers of education?
When our elected leaders gather within their boundaries and cry that their county is neglected, what are residents suppose to do? Wail? Scream? Grieve? When tell the residents to elect visionary leaders, were we wrong to have elected them?

All along I thought they had development blueprints to propel their respective constituencies to glory?
I have seen a number of them telling us how they will ascend to seats of power i.e. senators, governors, some even dream of being executives of this great nation!
But how can we entrust failures with higher offices (they admitted)? Are rewarding mediocrity or its that misplaced sense of entitlement? Guys let united adopt this simple phrase... WE REFUSE!
We refuse to reward mediocrity, we refuse equate leadership to money, we refuse to recycle old, tired ideas, we refuse to politics with our lives, WE REFUSE...
Think about, the voice of one person can change the destiny of a people... Are you that voice? Do you stand to be counted? Then watch this space....
