Peace crusades in trouble spots should be encouraged

EDITORIAL

We have learned that a series of peace crusades involving youths and law enforcing officers to enhance community policing have been held in Molo and Kuresoi, and has initiated peaceful co-existence between communities living in the areas considered hot spot as General Election nears.

Reports have it that Alex Tum Foundation, community elders and the administration police officers have joined hands in regular peace meetings urging residents hailing from cosmopolitan constituencies learn to tolerate and respect each other as people within one nation with a common goal rather than tribal and regional differences.

The peace ambassadors led by Alex Tum fully sponsored youths and women groups in soccer, and athletics among other games to unite tribes in passing a message of peace among different communities. Tum called on warring communities living in Rift Valley to respect one another and shun traditional cattle rustling that stir conflict disguised in the claims of historical and land injustices to encourage harmony regardless of social and political affiliation of communities. He urged the church to deny politicians the pulpit to infuse falsehood, hate speech as experienced in the past elections where some denominations are used as a campaign tool by politicians as they reach out the masses for votes.

Speaking at a series of peace meeting held at Kiptororo, Murinduko, and Kamara the peace ambassadors challenged residents to unity and fight the tribal vise adding that Kuresoi and Molo were under developed due to perennial tribal clashes that sparked since the first multiparty elections.

Tum confided to the Press  that the seed of tribal clashes is planted some months to the election adding that the country had found itself under the International Criminal Court ICC over lack of desire to deal with tribal differences locally to address blood shed, looting and displacement of persons from their farms.
He said the Alex Tum Foundation and the Angles of Mercy Home Healthcare Company will partner with peace lovers to reach out different communities and engage in dialogue to reduce crimes and create investment for self reliance organization groups.

Alex noted that after the series of peace meetings, youth forums and peace caravans Kuresoi will be a centre of peace and stability to hasten development to uplift the living standards of the people in the agricultural constituency. He said the rural people are lured into violence by sentiments made in public by political, religious and opinion leaders who embark on ethnic campaigns during electioneering process.
The Home News welcomes these peace crusades and we urge leaders and NGOs to extend them to other trouble spots.
